Remembering Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr., (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968)

Its funny sometimes how great I think my challenges in life are when really, they are but mere trivial daily challenges easily overcome. Today more than others, it was put in perspective with the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. who was assassinated 40 years ago today.
"At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement. On the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city, he was assassinated."
When asked the elusive question in school and different conversations, "If you could meet someone from the past, who would it be?" Altough there are numerous people I would love to know, Martin Luther King would have been one that I would choose. To have such selflessness and dedication to a cause so important is an amazing character. He died for his beliefs just like so many others. At a time when the news is filled with sadness and disappointment, it is nice to remember a man with such great character who cause a nation to open their eyes to new ideas.
